Home minister: Adequate security will be provided on Christmas, New Year's Eve

The government will implement extensive security measures around the country for Christmas and New Year's Eve, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Wednesday. The home minister informed reporters about the security plan following a meeting with law enforcement high-ups at the Secretariat. "Adequate security will be provided to all the churches in Dhaka and across the country for Christmas," Kamal said. "A 5,000-strong security force will be deployed to keep 75 churches in Dhaka safe." In addition, several decisions have been made regarding security on December 31 - New Year's Eve, the minister said. "No programs or parties will be allowed in open or public places after dusk; no outsider will be allowed to stay inside the Dhaka University campus after 8pm; and no one other than the residents of Banani-Gulshan-Baridhara Diplomatic Zone area will be allowed to move around in the area after dusk. "In addition, all the bars in the country will remain closed from December 31 evening till the morning next day," he said.
