Abdur Rob-led JSD meets with the president, places a three-point proposal

The 10-member delegation placed a three-point proposal which includes the enactment of a law to bring a permanent solution regarding the reconstitution of the commission. The meeting was held at the Darbar Hall of the president's official residence. The JSD delegation of Abdur Rob faction reached Bangabhaban at 3:45pm and the meeting began at 4:45pm. After the meeting, the president's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told reporters that President Abdul Hamid thanked the JSD delegation for their constructive proposals over the reconstitution of the commission. The president also emphasised that consensus among political parties was important to form a strong Election Commission and hold polls in a free and fair manner, the press secretary added. Following the meeting, JSD President ASM Abdur Rob expressed his satisfaction over the outcome of the meeting and said: “Dialogue is important for democracy as well as for holding fair polls.” “We are pleased to meet the president. We had a cordial discussion on the issue of the Election Commission's reconstitution,” ASM Abdur Rob said while talking to media in front of Bangabhaban. President Abdul Hamid had initiated formal talks with political parties regarding the reconstitution of the Election Commission, holding the first discussion with BNP on December 18 last year. Meanwhile, the discussion with Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh that was scheduled to take place on Saturaday has been shifted to January 9, following a request from the party, said the press secretary.
