Travellers suffer due to tailback on Dhaka-Tangail Highway

Update : 07 Jan 2017, 12:04 AM
Traffic on the highway was higher than usual in the morning as ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route were disrupted due to heavy fog, police said. During the traffic jam on the highway, many people were seen waiting for hours. Children and elderly people were the worst sufferers. Many of the Mirzapur Cadet College admission seekers were also stuck in the long traffic jam expanding over a 25km area from Korotia to Kaliakor. Enamul Kabir, whose son is an admission seeker, said many applicants could not reach the examination halls on time due to the gridlock although the test was pushed back for an hour. Gorai highway police’s Sub-Inspector Motaleb Hossain said a goods-laden truck broke down at Kasimtola of Mirzapur triggering the massive tailback. “Apart from that, many chose this route as dense fog disrupted services on the Daulatdia-Paturia ferry route. This sudden spike in vehicle number also contributed to the traffic jam,” the SI added. The situation was improving gradually as the day progressed.
