Jail officials in UN peacekeeping for the first time

For the first time, two prison officials from Bangladesh have been selected for taking part in the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission. Jail Superintendents Md Obaidur Rahman and Nahida Parvin will leave for South Sudan on November 25. They will play the role of correction officer in the peacekeeping mission, said the press release singed by Additional Inspector General (Prisons) Colonel Md Iqbal Hasan.

Since 1988, Bangladeshi Peacekeepers have been working with UN missions to keep the peace in countries from Haiti to East Timor, Lebanon to Congo and from Croatia to Namibia. The Bangladeshi contingent in South Sudan’s capital, Juba, successfully completed the referendum organized by the UN, which played a key role in ensuring independence and sovereignty of the African nation.  This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
