6 Bangladeshi fishermen shot by Myanmar troopers

Myanmar's border troopers intruded into Bangladeshi waters and opened fire on two fishing boats in the Bay injuring six fishermen on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place near the St Martin's Island. Four of the injured have been identified as Nur Ahmed, 60, M Osman, 22, M Saiful, 25, and Rafiqul Islam, 35, reports UNB. St Martin police camp Sub-Inspector Dalim Barua said a team of Myanmar border guards entered Bangladeshi waters around 2:30pm and opened fire on the fishermen, leaving six of them injured. The fishermen were taken to St. Martin's Island where army personnel gave them first aid, said Nur Ahmed, chairman of local union parishad. Later, they were sent to Sadar Hospital for better treatment, the chairman added.
