Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has said that China and Russia want full implementation of the recommendations of the Kofi Annan Commission on Arakan.
"The whole world is in favour of Bangladesh over Rohingya issue now," the foreign minister said during a press briefing on Wednesday.
He said: “China did not make comment on the Kofi Annan Commission report. But they said Rohingya people have been living in Myanmar through ages. It indicates the two countries support Bangladesh.”
“We would like to inform Urdiwala (military) of Myanmar that Rohingya people are Myanmar nationals. They were awarded by the country a few days ago.”
The minister also hoped that the Rohingya issue would be resolved within a year.
“Our aim is to repatriate Rohingya people to Myanmar safely,” he said adding Bangladesh has been carrying out its diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation since the very beginning of its occurrence.
Annan Commission suggested, Myanmar should respond to a crisis over its Muslim Rohingya community in a “calibrated” way without excessive force adding that radicalisation was a danger if problems were not addressed.
The commission said that preparators of rights abuses should be held accountable and asked Aung San Suu Kyi to come up with long-term solutions.
