In a Facebook post, Joy said: “Congratulations to Mayor Ivy for winning against the BNP. She received 42% of the vote against the BNP's 29% with voter turnout at a little over 60%.
“This was one of the most peaceful elections in Bangladesh. Even the BNP could not find anything to complain about,” he added.
Awami League-backed candidate Ivy was re-elected as Narayanganj City Corporation mayor beating rival BNP-backed candidate Sakhawat Hossain Khan.
She defeated Sakhawat by over 79,567 votes in one of the most peaceful and incident-free elections Bangladesh has ever seen.
