Bangabandhu’s sculpture unveiled in London

Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta unveiled the statue on Saturday, built in front of the house of London AL Joint Secretary Afsar Khan Sadek, who financed the sculpture, reports the Bangla Tribune. Suranjit Sengupta said: “The statue will encourage the expatriate Bangladeshis to know about Bangladesh and the Liberation War.” Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Nazmul Quaunine, UK AL president Sultan Mahmud Sharif, General Secretary Sayeed Sajidur Rahman Faruk and other senior UK AL leaders were present at the unveiling. Earlier, BNP-Jamaat alliance hindered an initiative to build Bangabandhu’s sculpture in front of Camden Council. Later, Afsar Khan applied to Tower Hamlets Council in 2009 for the construction of the sculpture and was granted permission in 2014. The statue of the Father of the Nation has been made public after the inauguration.
