Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, who supplied firearms for the murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, and one of his cohorts Monir have been sent to jail.
Two Chittagong courts sent them to jail after the duo were produced before the courts with 10-day remand pleas in two cases: the Mitu murder case and a firearms case filed with Bakalia police station.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner Nirmalendu Bikash Chawakrabarty told the Dhaka Tribune: “The Court of Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmul Hossain Chowdhury sent Bhola to jail after he was produced before the court with a petition to place him on remand for ten days in the murder case.”
He said the court had scheduled the hearing of the petition after Eid.
Meanwhile, the Court of Third Metropolitan Magistrate Nowrin Akter Kakon sent Monir and Bhola to jail after they were produced before the court with another remand petition for 10 days in a firearms case filed with Bakalia police station. The court scheduled the hearing of that petition after Eid as well, the CMP official said.
Bhola and Monir were arrested by detectives from Chittagong city’s Bakalia area early Tuesday in connection with the murder.
Mitu, wife of decorated Superintendent of Police Babul Akter, was stabbed and shot dead by three bike-riding assailants in GEC intersection in Chittagong city in the early morning of June 5.
Babul filed a case accusing the three unidentified persons and their cohorts with Panchlaish police station the following day.
