Update : 06 Dec 2016, 08:31 PM
Two police constables have been withdrawn from their duty on charge of harassing a journalist in Chittagong city on Tuesday. The constables-Nazmul and Tonmoy-were posted at Mohora police outpost under Chandgaon police station, said CMP Assistant Commissioner Jahangir Alam. He said: “The two constables were withdrawn from their duty at the outpost and they were sent back to police lines following a complaint in this regard.” Mostafa Yousuf, a staff reporter of bdnews24.com, alleged that the police constables harassed him while he was returning to Chittagong city from Raojan upazila by a bus. “The police constables frisked me along with other passengers of the bus at Kaptai Rastar Matha area around 11am and did not find anything suspicious. However, they picked me up and took to the police outpost for frisking again,” he said. The journalist further said: “The policemen were trying to put some Yaba pills into my pocket at the time of searching. But when I disclosed my professional identity to them, the police constables did not proceed further.” Later, Mostafa lodged a written complaint with the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) against the two policemen. Meanwhile, Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ), issuing a press statement, condemned and protested the harassment of the journalist by the police constables.
