SP Babul Akhter is being interrogated by police on some issues, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told the Dhaka Tribune.
He, however, refused to disclose any more details, saying that updates would be given soon.
SP Babul was living at his father-in-law's house located in Banasree in Dhaka since his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was killed by some unidentified assailants on June 5. His father-in-law Mosarraf Hossain retired from police as officer-in-charge.
SP Babul was attached with the police headquarters after being transferred and promoted to SP rank. He was supposed to transfer to Chittagong police again to assist in the Mitu murder case.
Mosarraf Hossain said officer-in-charge of Khilgaon police station Moinul Hossain and Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel division police Anowar Hossain took away Babul at 1am saying that Inspector General of Police wanted to talk with him.
"Since then, we are not getting any trace of Babul and he is also not answering the phone call, although it is ringing," Mosarraf said.
Babul went outside before this for a number of times but this was happening for the first time that he is out of contact, he said, adding that he did not know what to do as Babul's two children were crying for him at home.
Dhaka Tribune contacted DC Motijheel over the phone several times but he did not receive the call.
According to sources, Babul was kept at the detective branch office of DMP. He was supposed to be taken to Chittagong as the Chittagong police got information on two of his informants' involvement in the killing of his wife Mitu.
However, neither the DB police nor the police authority are confirming the issues or giving any statement regarding it yet.
It should be mentioned that SP Babul is the plaintiff in the case filed regarding the Mitu murder, for which reason, he was taken or called by investigators for interrogation.
