Life took a very strange turn for an Indian snack vendor on Wednesday when, returning home to his rented residence on Daftary Road in Malad, Mumbai, he was greeted by his wife and the “friend” she was in bed with.
The friend, however, did not remain her friend for very long as the woman immediately accused him of rape, reports the Times of India.
Police who were called in to investigate the matter were able to ascertain from neighbours that the accused was a frequent visitor to the home and was known by them to be the woman’s friend.
The 30-year-old homemaker, however, continued to insist the man had raped her and has officially pressed charges against him. The man in question is on the run.
In her statement to the police, the woman claimed that she had left the front door open for her husband and the stranger had barged in. Of the rest of the family, the parents-in-law and their two sons were asleep on another floor of the house and the woman’s brother and sister-in-law were in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the woman’s husband, soon after leaving home that night, he recalled something he needed and went back home to collect it. On entering his home, he encountered the stranger and his wife in the bedroom. At that point, his wife started shouting for help and he jumped to action. He caught the other man and began to beat him. Amid all this, the stranger somehow managed to collect his clothes off the floor and escape.
A senior police official confirmed the facts and said based on the woman’s statement, a rape case had been filed under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code.
