McDonald's swears allegiance to Saudi crown prince

Update : 24 Jun 2017, 08:47 PM
It is very unlikely for a fast-food chain to get involved with politics however fast-food giant, McDonald's, decided otherwise – by pledging allegiance with the Saudi Arabia's the new crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman. Prince Salman was appointed earlier this week by his father, the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud. Amid mixed reactions about this appointment, an unlikely support surfaced in public from McDonald's KSA which published a full-page advertisement in Saudi on Wednesday – pledging “allegiance and obedience for his royal highness.” The ad reads: "We renew our allegiance and obedience for his royal highness, the servant of the two holy mosques, King Salman the son of Abdul Aziz Al Saud. And we support Amir Mohammed bin Salman, his son, to become Minister of Defence and Prime Minister and to be nominated as successor. God give him wisdom and equip him to rule his kingdom. With peace and prosperity, McDonald's." “There may not have been a better sign off in all of culinary history,” reports Vox which explains why “it’s not entirely surprising that McDonald’s did this” As McDonald’s KSA, the Saudi Arabian franchise of the fast-food giant, is owned by Mishaal Bin Khalid al Saud. Mishaal is another prince and a close relative to Salman.Mishaal is another prince and a close relative to Salman.Surprisingly, when Twitter users picked up on the news and jokingly tagged other fast-food chains such as KFC, Burger King and Domino's and asked them join the bandwagon, the latter two actually complied with response tweets in their support.Widely acknowledged as the face of modern of KSA, Salman is not very popular among many US administrators who are skeptical about his “reckless behaviour” which includes “launching a bloody and so far inconclusive war in Yemen.”
