Coke Studio Bangla concludes season one with 'Hei Samalo'

The season one of Coke Studio Bangla comes to a conclusion with the launch of the latest song, “Hei Samalo”. Coke Studio Bangla, the Bangladesh edition of Coca-Cola’s international music property, Coke Studio, launched a total of 10 songs in season one excluding the theme song of the first season, “Ekla Cholo Re”.  The final song was released through an exclusive screening for 500 fans. 

The final song of the inaugural season, “Hei Samalo” contains a star-studded lineup of music artists including Samina Chowdhury, Bappa Majumder, Shayan Chowdhury Arnob, Dilshad Nahar Kona, Ritu Raj, and Sunidhi Nayak as the lead singers. Numerous musicians such as Animesh Roy, Rubayat, Masha and others are also part of this song. This song also contains musicians belonging to the Mro community in Naikhongchari of Bandarban. Their melodious tunes of their flutes that can be heard in Bandarban, will now be heard on a global platform.

Hei Samalo” looks to pay tribute to the undying spirit and the rebelling nature that can be found among all Bangladeshis. The final song of Coke Studio Bangla season one is a fusion between “Hei Samalo” written by Shalil Chowdhury and “Ora Amar Mukher Bhasha” by Abdul Latif. The original Hei Samalo song was written back in 1948 when the local farmers protested injustice against them leading to a big revolt. On the other hand, “Ora Amar Mukher Bhasha” was written during the Language Movement of Bangladesh in 1952, believing that freedom of expression is a human right.

The first season contained a wide variety of songs from different genres including the opener, “Nasek Nasek” followed by “ Prarthona”, “Bulbuli” , “ Bhober Pagol”, “ Chiltey Roud”,  “Bhinnotar Uthshob”, “ Shob Lokey Koy”, “Lilabali”, “Dokhina Hawa” and lastly, “Hei Samalo”. Season 1 featured a star-studded line up of Bangladeshi legendary musicians such as Momtaz Begum, Bappa Majumdar, Pantha Kanai, Dilshad Nahar Kona, Samina Chowdhury, Mizan, Tahsan Khan along with new promising singers from music industry such as Animesh Roy, Boga Taleb, Nandita, Makhon and others.
