Gas supply to the national grid has returned to normal levels after Summit LNG’s floating terminal in Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, resumed operations following maintenance.
The terminal restarted regasification at 1pm on Saturday, with Petrobangla confirming that both LNG terminals were once again supplying gas to the national grid at their usual levels.
According to Petrobangla’s data at 2pm on Saturday, the country’s total gas supply stood at 2,408 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). Of this, 1,584mmcfd came from domestic gas fields, while LNG accounted for 824mmcfd.
The Summit terminal was shut down last Wednesday for maintenance, resulting in a significant drop in gas supply to the national grid.
At 8am that day, total gas supply stood at 2,540mmcfd, including 1,566mmcfd from domestic fields and 974mmcfd from LNG.
After the terminal was shut down, the total supply fell to 2,079mmcfd by 10am. Domestic gas supply remained almost unchanged at 1,565mmcfd, while LNG supply dropped to 514mmcfd.
This represented a decline of 461mmcfd in total supply within two hours.
Petrobangla had earlier said maintenance at the Summit terminal would continue from 8am on November 4 until 4pm on November 7, during which regasification would remain suspended. It had warned that the disruption could cause low gas pressure across the country.
