‘I am not contesting in AL national council’

He made the statement at a 'Meet the Press' programme held a Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Monday afternoon.
The minister said: “I will not be contesting for any post in the national council of Awami League. Many media outlets are reporting that I will be vying for the post of secretary but it’s false.
“I am neither contesting nor do I wish to.”
He also expressed dissatisfaction regarding such fake reports.
Talking about general election, Obaidul said: “There is be no interim election but the next election will be held following the current electoral rules.”
The national council is scheduled to be held in October.
Hasina and Syed Ashraf were reelected as party president and general secretary in the 19th central council held on December 29, 2012. The previous council was held on July 24, 2009. According to the party constitution, the council session is held every three years.
The party was floated as Awami Muslim League at a two-day political workers conference at the historic Rose Garden on Abhoy Das Lane of Old Dhaka on June 23-24 in 1949. Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, Shamsul Huq and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were elected as its president, general secretary and joint secretary. Later it was renamed as the Awami League.
