Posters of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League have been put up at several locations on the campus of Dhaka University (DU), prompting protests and a 24-hour ultimatum from student leaders.
Posters reading “Unconditional release of all political prisoners of Bangladesh Chhatra League” were spotted on various university walls on Friday night.
In protest, Ducsu staged a program on Saturday afternoon, surrounding the proctor’s office and demanding action.
From the protest, Ducsu leaders called for CCTV footage to be reviewed within 24 hours to identify those responsible and bring them under the law.
Around pm, Ducsu leaders gathered in front of the proctor’s office and chanted slogans before meeting Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed to press their demands.
The proctor told them that action could have been taken earlier if the administration had been informed about the posters in advance. He said relevant security officials have been instructed, and the identities of on-duty guards will be verified before taking necessary action. Provosts and the estate office have also been directed to prepare a list.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Ducsu Social Welfare Secretary AB Jubayer said the banned Chhatra League had engaged in provocative activities on campus not only the previous night but also earlier.
“They have put up pictures of Sheikh Hasina, hung banners, and even locked important gates. They are gaining courage due to the administration’s negligence,” he said.
“We have given the proctor 24 hours to check the CCTV footage and identify those responsible. Putting up posters like thieves under the cover of night must stop. There will be no compromise with those who have shed students’ blood,” he added.
