DU Pro-VC nominated for National Environment Award 2026

The government confers National Environment Award annually on individuals, institutions in recognition of their contributions to environmental conservation, among others

Professor Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University, has been nominated for the National Environment Award 2026 in the "Environmental Research and Technology Innovation" category.

Deputy Director (Publicity) Kazi Suman confirmed the development to Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday, saying Abdus Salam is scheduled to receive the award on Thursday.

Under the National Environment Award Policy 2012, amended in 2019, Abdus Salam was selected in the "Environmental Research and Technology Innovation" category. The award includes the market value of a two-tola, 22-carat gold medal, a cheque for Tk50,000, an honorary crest, and a certificate.

The government confers the National Environment Award annually on individuals and institutions in recognition of their contributions to environmental conservation, pollution prevention, scientific research, environmental education, and public awareness.

Abdus Salam is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Dhaka University. Before assuming the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), he served as acting dean of the Faculty of Science.
