Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul on Tuesday said the Awami League continuously engages in deception, propaganda, and slander.
"Awami League’s two weapons are lies and propaganda," the adviser remarked during a press briefing in his ministry's conference room.
Asif Nazrul said an application has been submitted to Interpol for issuing a red alert to arrest former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
He mentioned that India’s stance on extraditing Sheikh Hasina is not favourable, as "India wants to destabilize Bangladesh over this issue."
The law adviser said: "Trials for July-August mass killings are ongoing at the International Crimes Tribunal. So far, the prosecution has filed 300 complaints and 16 cases with the tribunal. Among them, investigations into four cases will be completed in February. After framing charges, the trial process will commence, and witness testimonies are expected to begin in April, after Eid-ul-Fitr."
He expressed hope that verdicts in three to four cases would be delivered by October.
Hasina, former ministers, and top Awami League leaders are accused in these cases.
Asif Nazrul said that during the Awami League's tenure, it took about two and a half years to dispose of each tribunal case. "However, the current process will be significantly faster, with verdicts being delivered in much less time."
The prosecution team is working tirelessly to ensure swift justice for the genocide cases, he said.
Regarding the withdrawal of cases under the Cyber Security Act, Asif Nazrul said 396 cases related to freedom of expression were under trial. Of these, 332 cases have been withdrawn, and the remaining 61 cases will be withdrawn by February, he added.
However, three cases could not be withdrawn as they are pending in the High Court, he mentioned.
The law adviser further said that among the 16,429 politically motivated "ghost cases" filed during the Awami League’s tenure, 1,214 cases will be withdrawn within a week. Among them, 53 cases will be withdrawn within the next couple of days, Asif Nazrul said.
