Sohel Taj urges government to bring vandals of Bangabandhu’s house under law

Former state minister for Home Affairs Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj has urged the government to hold those responsible for vandalizing Bangabandhu’s house and bring them under the law.

Sohel Taj visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 on Tuesday.

He said: “Some miscreants took the opportunity of the mass uprising of the students and the general people and vandalized the house.”

Sohel Taj condemned the vandalism.

He requested the interim government and put the demand of bringing the miscreants under the law.

“Today I came here guided by my conscience. I am a person who is driven by conscience. I protest against injustice. I do as much as I can”

He said that he could not accept the vandalism of the house. “Bangabandhu is the symbol of our independence,” he added.

“So, we need to preserve Bangabandhu with the light of the history…..Disrespecting Bangabandhu means disrespecting the 23 years of uprising before the liberation war,” said Taj.

“The purpose of the 2024 movement is a discrimination-free Bangladesh, a Bangladesh where everyone’s rights are ensured, a Bangladesh where everyone has the freedom of speech, a Bangladesh where intellect is the main key to judge a person,” he said.

“These are the main goals of the Liberation War. However, our bad luck is we could not achieve these till now,” he added.

“We cannot deny the contribution of Bangabandhu. Because if we forget our past we cannot build the future.”

“Those who contributed in our war of liberation, I believe that everyone’s contribution has to be introduced to the new generation.”

He gave examples of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, A K Fazlul Huq, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tajuddin Ahmed, and Syed Nazrul Islam.

He also mentioned Ziaur Rahman and other sector commanders.

“I believe that, using these characters for political gain is improper,” said Taj.
