Sohel Taj to march to Ganabhaban with 3-point demand Monday

Sohel Taj, a former state minister for Home Affairs, and son of the country's first prime minister, on Friday announced a program to march towards Ganabhaban on Monday to press home a three-point demand.

The demands include declaring April 10, the day the first Bangladesh government was formed, as "Republic Day".

He said he will start his march program from Manik Mia Avenue adjacent to the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban towards Ganabhaban at 3pm on Monday.

Sohel Taj will give a memorandum to the prime minister.

In a press release, Sohel Taj said, April 10, 1971 is a significant, important and turning day in the history of Bangladesh as the first government of Bangladesh was formed on this day in 1971.

“And under the successful leadership of this government, we achieved our independence through a bloody nine-month liberation war. I think the new and future generations can contribute to building a beautiful and bright future of Bangladesh only when they know the correct and complete history of our great liberation war,” he added.

On October 31 last year, Sohel Taj gave a memorandum to the speaker with a three-point demand, including observing November 3 as national day.

Another demand is including biographies of martyrs and brave freedom fighters of liberation war including four national leaders in textbooks and syllabus of all levels.
