Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury has announced a half-day general strike for March 28 in protest against the rising prices utility services and daily commodities such as edible oil, rice, lentils and onion.
He declared the program in a media call at the Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital on Friday.
All political parties and people should observe the hartal peacefully from 6am till 12 noon on March 28, he said.
“Do not go out of the house that day. Even if you need to do so, do it to enforce the shutdown,” Dr Zafrullah said.

“I request the government and law enforcement agencies to not vandalise cars themselves and put blame on us,” he said.
Gonosonghoti Andolon Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has extended support for the shutdown. He also announced a series of demonstrations in protest against price hike.
Left Democratic Alliance calls hartal
Meanwhile, Baam Gonotantrik Morcha (Left Democratic Alliance) also called a nationwide half-day hartal for March 28 over the same issue.
Leaders of the Left Alliance announced the programme from a press conference at Mukti Bhaban in Purana Paltan in the morning, reports UNB.
They urged all to join the movement for the sake of their own survival.

The leaders demanded strict action against hoarders, warehouse keepers and traders to break the syndicate as well as introducing rationing systems for the poor in rural and urban areas.
They also demanded withdrawal of the decision to increase the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Besides, they urged the government to increase surveillance and supervision in the markets to ensure proper distribution of essential food items.
