Jubo Mohila League, an affiliated body of the ruling Awami League, has suspended its Narsingdi District unit General Secretary Shamima Nur Papia from the organization.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday, Jubo Mohila League’s General Secretary Apu Ukil said: “Our central committee has suspended Shamima Nur Papia because she had violated the Section 22 of our organization’s constitution.”
“We found out about her involvement with unlawful activity; that’s why she has been suspended,” Apu Ukil added.
On Saturday morning, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained four members of a gang of currency counterfeiters and seized fake currencies of various countries from their possession at Dhaka airport.
RAB 1 Commanding Officer Shafi Ullah Bulbul, at a press conference at the battalion's Karwan Bazar media centre, said Shamima Nur Papia was the ringleader of the gang and smuggled counterfeit notes.
"She is also involved in illegal arms and drug trading, and a prostitution racket," he added.
