The Awami League (AL) did not invite any foreign guests to attend its 21th national council but the party has invited a lot of diplomats working in Dhaka and a number of distinguished citizens of the country.
Dr Shammi Ahmed, international affairs secretary of AL told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday: “This time we did not invite any foreign politicians for our council. We have a major program ahead which is the celebration of the Mujib Year (marking Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birth centenary. We will invite a good number of foreign guests. You can say, we dropped this plan to make Mujib Year even more colourful.”
In 2016, during the time of its 20th national council, AL invited a lot of foreign delegates and politicians to attend their council including politicians from India, Nepal and other neighbouring countries who joined the council’s opening session.
