BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed has said they will move the High Court if party Chairperson Khaleda Zia is not happy with the medical board.
He made the remarks after meeting the director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Sunday afternoon.
Moudud said concerns were voiced over Khaleda Zia’s health during their meeting with the hospital’s Director Brig Gen Md Abdullah-Al-Harun.
A four-member delegation of pro-BNP lawyers, led by Moudud, went to the hospital to ensure Khaleda Zia’s treatment as per the High Court directives.
Other delegation members are Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, Advocate Zainul Abedin, and Barrister Kaiser Kamal.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to BSMMU, on Saturday, in line with a High Court order.
On October 4, the High Court directed the government to immediately move the BNP chief from Dhaka’s Old Central Jail to BSMMU—for treatment and to form a five-member medical board over the matter.
The former three-time prime minister has been in prison since she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8.
On September 16, a different government-formed medical board suggested admitting Khaleda to a hospital like BSMMU, although they did not find symptoms of any serious disease in her during medical tests.
On April 7, Khaleda had undergone some medical tests at BSMMU Hospital because of her illness.
BNP has long been demanding their party chief be moved to United Hospital, in the city’s Gulshan, for better treatment —as the conditions of her left hand and leg worsen.
