Engineer Sheikh Muhammad Shahidullah, convener of the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports, has passed away. He was 93 years old.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment in the US at 7am (local time).
He was born on July 31, 1931, in Daulatpur, Khulna city. His intelligence was evident from his early childhood.
Raised under the constant supervision of his father, who was a skilled mathematics teacher and a lifelong schoolteacher, Shahidullah had the opportunity to pursue higher education.
He passed his matriculation exams in the first division in 1946, secured his ISC from Brojalal Academy in 1948 with three letters, achieved distinction from the IEB and secured second place in the education board in his BSc pass course in 1950.
He topped the entrance exam at Ahsanullah Engineering College in 1950 and was admitted.
In 1954, he graduated from the Civil Engineering Department with first-class honours and a gold medal for achieving over 75% marks.
Later, he established himself as a renowned engineer in the country.
Engineer Shahidullah led a dual life in his single lifetime. One was his professional life as an engineer. There, with unique intellect, extraordinary skills, honesty, dedication, and hard work, he secured a significant place in the engineering community of the country.
Many important governmental and private structures across the country, including in Dhaka city, were built strong under the intellectual and thoughtful guidance of Engineer Shahidullah.
He was not an active member of any political party but was sympathetic towards leftist political groups.
