Wildlife researcher Tania Khan dies

Animal researcher and wildlife photographer,  Tania Khan, was found dead at her residence in the Kalenga area of Moulvibazar district on Wednesday  morning.

She was 45.

“She might have died of cardiac arrest in her sleep,” Sylhet Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Shamsul Muhit Chowdhury said.

Locals found her dead at her Moulvibazar residence around 10 am, he said.

SOUL (Save Our Unprotected Life) Director, Tania Khan, recently received treatment at the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of a private hospital in Moulvibazar for four days.

The nature and environment conservation professional lost her husband, Forest Range Officer M Munir, in a road accident in 2015. Since then, she has been living in Moulvibazar for her inclination to nature and wildlife conservation.

Tania Khan left behind three daughters and a son to mourn her death.

She will be buried in Kalenga graveyard around 8pm.

Born in Dhaka, Tania loved animals so much that she established her own wildlife organization called 'Save our unprotected wildlife' in Moulvibazar.

She was an animal researcher and wildlife photographer who hoped to increase awareness of conservation issues.

“Tania Khan worked tirelessly to protect nature and wildlife. Looking after animals was her existence,” says Tabibur Rahman, assistant conservator with the wildlife management and conservation department of Gazipur Safari Park.
