Their commander and the affected FFs blamed the upazila administration for the situation, saying that mistakes in public documents earned the stalemate.
It was learnt that the financial crisis pushed the war heroes' families in a dire straits though both local and district authorities were informed of the matter.
Mohalchhari upazila Muktijuddha Commander Chohalaprue Chowdhury said: “There are 32 listed freedom fighters in the upazila. The Liberation War Affairs Ministry had stopped the monthly allowance of eight of them long ago owing to appearing some complaints in this regard.
“Due to a mistake done by Mohalchhari upazila nirbahi office, ten of the rest 24 FFs have been deprived for their allowances since January this year causing untold suffering to their families.”
“We have talked to the UNO, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the ministry concerned for a solution to the problem, but no fruitful result is yet to come in nine months,” he alleged.
Deprived war heroes Humayun Kabir, Shahjahan Pathowary, Sapon Chandra said their sufferings were caused by a mistake of the administration. They demanded a quick end to the crisis.
When contacted, Mohalchhari UNO Mohammad Ilias Miah denied the allegation of mistake in the allowance document raised against his administration.
“I have talked to the DC about the issue and the DC sent a letter to the ministry seeking the allowances of the FFs. I hope of coming a solution within a couple of months”.
DC Muhammad Wahiduzzaman said he was noticed of the matter and in the letter, he urged upon the ministry to release the allowances as early as possible.
A change may come in the next allocation, the DC opined.
