The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) returned a Bangladeshi farmer after a flag meeting with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) along the Meherpur border early Friday.
On Friday morning, Lieutenant Colonel Md Mahbub Murshed Rahman, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (47 BGB) Kushtia Battalion, confirmed the information.
The BGB commander said that on Thursday, around 2:30pm, Iqbal Hossain, a local Bangladeshi resident, crossed the designated zero line by swimming across the Bhairab River in Meherpur District near border pillar 132/15-R in the responsible area of Kathuli BOP under the Kushtia Battalion and entered approximately 100 yards inside Indian territory.
Later, while cutting grass in an area called Kutubpur Field, he was detained by members of the 56th Battalion BSF from the Teinpur Camp.
Following the incident, the Kathuli Company commander of Kushtia Battalion immediately contacted the commander of the Rauthbari Company of the 56th Battalion BSF to confirm the Bangladeshi citizen’s well-being and to discuss his return.
The BSF authorities agreed to return the Bangladeshi citizen through a flag meeting and the farmer was released.
