On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the Bangladesh Coast Guard West Zone has strengthened security measures across coastal waterways.
The information was confirmed on Wednesday by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid.
He said: "The Bangladesh Coast Guard has been working tirelessly since its inception to ensure overall safety in coastal and riverside areas. The force regularly conducts patrols, joint operations, and special drives to prevent unlawful activities and secure the waterways."
He continued: "Ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the Coast Guard West Zone has undertaken special measures at key launch, ferry, and boat terminals in Khulna’s Rupsha, Koyra, Nolian; Mongla and Sarankhola in Bagerhat; and Kaikhali in Satkhira.
"These include special patrols, awareness campaigns through loudspeakers and leaflet distribution, checking of suspicious individuals and water vessels, scanning passengers' bags, and other security-related activities to ensure public safety."
Every member of the Coast Guard remains alert to prevent any subversive activities that may be attempted by miscreants, with the goal of ensuring safe travel for all waterway passengers, Harun-or-Rashid said.
He added that these operations are ongoing around the clock and will continue even after Eid-ul-Azha to maintain safe travel conditions for the public.
