For the first time, a shipment of wheat from Argentina has been unloaded at Mongla Port.
The unloading process was completed on Friday at the Joymoni food storage silo in Mongla.
Earlier, on Thursday at noon, the Malta-flagged vessel MV Elipda GR anchored at buoy no 7 of the port carrying 20,080 metric tons of wheat.
Confirming the matter, Assistant Controller of the Mongla Food Control Department, Abdus Sobahan Sardar, said: "Through an international open tender, a total of 50,200 metric tons of wheat was imported from Argentina. The vessel first anchored at Chattogram Port on February 5, where 30,120 metric tons of wheat were unloaded. The remaining 20,080 metric tons were then brought to Mongla Port for unloading on Thursday."
He further said that on the same day at noon, officials from the Mongla Food Control Office, the ship’s shipping agent, and other concerned authorities collected wheat samples.
The unloading process began on Friday noon after conducting a physical inspection of the wheat and completing all necessary customs procedures.
The food control official added that after storing 13,080 metric tons of wheat in the silo, the remaining 7,000 metric tons will be bagged and distributed to various districts, including Barishal, Khulna, and Rajbari.
