A fire broke out on an oil tanker named MV Sadia Anik in the Dakatia River in Chandpur after an explosion in its engine room on Sunday afternoon.
At least six people were injured in the incident, with one of them, named Golap, 50, being sent to Dhaka in critical condition.
The fire broke out around 4:15pm near Padma Oil Company's jetty, according to Syed Morshed Alam, deputy assistant director of the Fire Service.
The other injured are Rubel, 30, Jilani, 35 Masud, 37, Gias, 29, and Madhu, 50.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage remain unknown.
The fire service and coast guard managed to control the blaze after about an hour.
According to the injured crew members, a sudden loud explosion shook the engine room, prompting them to jump into the water for safety.
