KNF member found dead in Bandarban

Police recovered the body of a suspected member of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) from Ruma Upazila in Bandarban on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Lal Thian Bom, 30, a resident of Jorbharangpara in the upazila.

The body was recovered from a remote hilly area of Jorbharangpara in the morning after an operation conducted by joint forces.

Later, the body was sent to the Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Local people said that joint forces had a gunfight with armed terrorists and KNF members on the night of Monday. The KNF member may have been killed in the gunfight.

Wishing anonymity, an official of Bandarban police said that a body from Ruma upazila was handed over to the police by members of the joint forces.

After the bank robbery of KNF members in Ruma and Thanchi upazilas of Bandarban, the operations conducted by joint forces are still going on against terrorist activities. So far, joint forces have arrested 96 people in various places of Bandarban in 21 cases. Besides, 12 deaths have been reported in gunfights with the joint forces. All the deceased were male members of the Bom community.

During this time, a large amount of arms ammunition, and various equipment used by KNF armed terrorists were recovered.
