Fine imposed for overcharging beef prices in Barguna

A trader named Nasir, 50, has been slapped with a Tk10,000 fine for selling beef at an inflated price during the Eid festivities in Barguna.

The penalty was administered by District Administration Executive Magistrate Zahidur Rahman through a mobile court on Monday.

The crackdown targeted various meat shops in Barguna municipality around noon, with Vipul Biswas, assistant director of the district’s Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, also present during the operation.

According to sources within the district administration, some unscrupulous traders tend to hike the prices of essential commodities during the upcoming Eid season. Measures are being taken to curb such exploitative practices and ensure that all products are sold at regulated prices.

Speaking on the matter, Barguna District Administration Executive Magistrate Zahidur Rahman said: “We are closely monitoring the situation in preparation for Eid. Any complaints regarding the mistreatment of buyers, including price hikes, will be dealt with according to the law.”
