A local leader of JaSod Chhatra League was hacked to death by miscreants at Golapnagar in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia district on Friday night due to previous enmity.
The deceased was identified as Naif Ahmed Tushar, vice-president of Mokarimpur union unit of JaSod Chhatra League and son of Rabiul Islam, president of JaSod, Ward No 4 Golapnagar Kadamtala.
The incident took place at around 8pm on Friday.
According to locals, a group of miscreants came in motorcycles, while Tushar was inside of a tea stall. They attacked him with sharp weapons. When he tried to escape, they chased him in the market and hacked him indiscriminately.
When the locals came, the miscreants left, keeping him on the road.
Locals rescued the injured in an unconscious condition and first took him to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex.
When the condition worsened there, he was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Later, he died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 10:30pm.
Bheramara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahurul Islam said that the police immediately went to the spot. Efforts are underway to arrest those involved.
Initially it seems this incident happened due to previous enmity. After investigation, he can say the details. Police are on alert in the area, he added.
