A student of Chittagong University (CU) has accused a professor of the Faculty of Science of attempting to rape her.
An investigation was launched on Wednesday after the student filed a written complaint with Vice Chancellor Dr Shireen Akhter in the afternoon.
The complainant said she disclosed the incident to her two classmates, who also had similar experiences.
Demanding justice, students organized a human chain at the faculty on Wednesday, restricting journalists from covering the event.
In the letter, the student alleged that the teacher was threatening the three students with potential consequences and asserted her inability to continue the thesis work in the laboratory.
Contacted, the accused teacher denied the allegations. "I don't know if it is the result of any sin of mine," he claimed.
"I learned about the complaint when a journalist called me today. In my 31 years of teaching, this is an unprecedented incident and bitter experience. They made a terrible accusation against me. I have never gone through this kind of mental pressure,” he claimed.
VC Shireen Akhter confirmed that she had received an allegation of attempted rape. “The matter will be investigated, and necessary action will be taken thereafter,” said the VC.
