Eid journey: Toll collection on Bangabandhu Bridge hits new high

The Bangabandhu Bridge authorities set a new record in vehicle crossing and toll collection on Tuesday. 

Some 55,488 vehicles have crossed over the bridge in 24 hours from 12am on Monday to 12am on Tuesday. 

Due to the record number of vehicles crossing the bridge, a total of Tk3,58,40,200 taka has been collected, Bangabandhu Bridge Authority Engineer Ahsanul Kabir Pavel disclosed the information on Wednesday morning.

On July 7 of last year, the maximum toll of Tk3,35,45,300 was collected. At that time, 43,595 vehicles crossed the bridge. Meanwhile, the previous record of vehicles crossing the bridge was 52,768 on May 21, 2021.  

According to toll plaza sources, some 36,491 vehicles crossed from the eastern end towards North Bengal in 24 hours, resulting in Tk2,06,69,750 toll collection. 

Apart from this, some 18,997 vehicles have crossed the bridge from the western end towards Dhaka. The amount of toll collection is Tk1,51,70,450 there.
