Sust bans 16 from dorm for ragging juniors

The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) authorities have banned 16 students from a dormitory due to their involvement in ragging freshmen. 

The university's syndicate took the decision during a meeting on Wednesday, Vice Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said on Thursday.

Moreover, another student was suspended from the university for attacking a student. 

Earlier, one of the ragging victims filed a complaint with the head of his department against several senior students for ragging freshmen on February 20 in room No 111 of Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall. 

Based on the complaint, the university initially suspended five students from the dormitory and the university.

To investigate the claim, a five-member probe committee was formed, led by Prof Dr Md Khairul Islam. 

Apan Mia, Md Al Amin, Md Papan Mia, Md Riaz Hossain and Md Ashiq Hossain were the students who were first suspended. They are all first-year business administration students enrolled in the second semester.
