4 killed as Microbus gas cylinder explodes in Mymensingh

At least four people have been killed after a microbus fell into a ditch and its gas cylinder exploded in Mymensingh's Trishal upazila on Monday.

The incident took place on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at around 2am. 

Seven other passengers of the vehicle have been severely burnt in the explosion. 

Two of the deceased have been identified as Rozina Begum, 55, and Dulena Begum, 50. 

The identities of the other victims could not be known yet.

One of the injured, Rubel Mia, said: “At around 2am, a bus tried to overtake our microbus. Our vehicle lost control and fell into a ditch, which caused the gas cylinder the explode.”

Trishal Fire Service Station Officer Abul Kalam said they recovered four bodies from the vehicle. 

The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, he added.

Meanwhile, Trishal police station OC Moinuddin said they are trying to identify the rest of the victims. 

He added that officers are investigating how the explosion took place. 

The bodies will soon be handed over to families, the OC added.
