Sylhet to have two stone crusher zones

The government has decided to construct two stone crusher zones in Sylhet’s Companiganj and Gowainghat to forestall uncontrolled extraction of sand and stone from quarries.

Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md Mozibor Rahman confirmed the information, adding that sand and stones should be extracted considering the environment. “We must ensure the conservation and proper use of natural resources,” he said. 

He made this remark at a dialogue program organized by Bangladesh Environment Lawyers Association (BELA) on Monday. 

He was present as the chief guest while the program was chaired by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, chief executive of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA).

Sylhet District Police Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun, Emran Hossain, director of the Department of Environment, Sylhet and Mohammad Mobarak Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) of Sylhet delivered the speech, among others, as special guests. 

Syleda Rizwana Hasan said: “Jaflong is a national and natural heritage of our country. We have to decide whether we will save our nature or not. We cannot allow our rivers to be destroyed for illegal quarrying.”

She also urged everyone’s cooperation and awareness to save biodiversity, environment and surroundings from pollution.
