Awami League leader stabbed to death in Chandpur

An Awami League leader has been stabbed to death by a group of unknown miscreants at his home in Chandpur Sadar.

The incident took place on Saturday evening at the three-storey house of Safiullah Boarding in the city's new market area.

The deceased was identified as Rafiqullah Company, 70, member of Chandpur District Awami League executive committee and the president of Shahid Javed Mukto scout group. 

Police detained the caretaker of the house, Miraj, in this connection.

Fahim Shahreen Kaushik, nephew of Rafiqullah, said: "We came to know that a young man entered the house in the evening and stabbed my uncle and left." 

Later he was taken to Chandpur Government General Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.

Chandpur Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rashid said: "Upon receiving the news, the body was recovered and sent to the morgue. The matter is under investigation.”

Chandpur Additional Superintendent of Police Sudipta Roy said: "It seems like a planned murder. He has injury marks on his body. Legal action will be taken after investigation.”

Meanwhile, District Awami League President Nashir Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary Abu Naeem Patwari Dulal, Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi rushed to the hospital after hearing about the murder of Rafiqullah Company. 

Party leaders and activists demanded quick investigation into the incident and bringing the perpetrators under the jurisdiction of law.
