Public transports, including buses, trains and launches, will be allowed to carry passengers at half capacity while drivers and helpers must have Covid-19 vaccine certificates from January 13, as per the new measures declared by the government on Monday.
Moreover, inbound passengers will have to show vaccination certificates and take antigen tests upon arrival at all border ports.
The government would operate mobile courts to ensure compliance with the health guidelines, according to the fresh order, which makes masks mandatory for everyone in public places, amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in the last few days.
The restrictions also include banning all kinds of social, political, and religious gatherings in open places.
Bangladesh witnessed a sharp rise in Covid-19 infections as 2,231 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours till 8am Monday, with a daily test positivity rate of 8.53%.
The country has reported nine more cases of the coronavirus Omicron variant taking the total number in the country to 30 till Monday.
The data was released by Germany-based organisation Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID).
