Wild elephant kills mentally-unstable woman in Kaptai

A mentally-ill woman was killed by a wild elephant in Kaptai of Rangamati on Wednesday, officials said.

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

The incident took place on Navy Road around 9pm, Kaptai Range Forest Officer Khandaker Mahmudul Haq Murad said.

Packs of wild animals often come to the locality around the Navy Road after evening in search of food, and sometimes roam around the main road, according to the forest officer.

The woman was attacked by a wild elephant and she died on the spot, he said.

Later, the Kaptai No 4 Union Parishad chairman, police and some locals reached the spot and rescued the body with the help of Kaptai Fire Service.

Inspector Shahinur Rahman of the Kaptai police outpost said that they would arrange her funeral, since she was a mentally-ill person, in consultation with the UP chairman and local administration.
