Commuters suffer due to tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway

Hundreds of vehicles and commuters got stuck in a 15-kilometer-long tailback on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Comilla on Friday due to road construction work.

The construction work is being carried out on the Sufia Road portion of the highway, reports Bangla Tribune.

However, Belal Uddin Jahangir, officer-in-charge of Mainamati highway police station, told Dhaka Tribune that the traffic congestion was initially caused by an accident involving a lorry on the highway.

The tailback stretched to 40 kilometers at one point, he said.

Thousands of vehicles got stuck which caused extreme miseries to the drivers and passengers.

However, the traffic on the highway started to become normal after 3pm.

Vehicles were also stuck in a five-kilometer-long tailback on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway on Friday.

The congestion was caused by the slow movement of ferry on Paturia-Doulatdia route, said locals.

Hundreds of vehicles, including buses, private vehicles, and goods-laden trucks remained stranded in the tailback, causing immense suffering to passengers.
