Police found four hanging bodies in three separate incidents in Gazipur on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Rajat Kanti Chowdhury, 37, owner of a diagnostic centre, Lima Rahman, 25, a former medical worker at the same centre, Kayum Morol, 28, a railway gateman, and Shawon, 22, a man with special needs.
The bodies of Rajat and Lima were found hanging together from the ceiling at a rented house in Gazipur’s Gacha union, said Gacha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Moniruzzaman.
According to police, Lima, a former employee of Rajat, the owner of Sigma Diagnostic Centre, was currently working at the local Motex Sweater Factory.
Lima had not returned to work since she went home on Thursday. On Saturday, her employers at the factory sent some of her co-workers to her house to check-up on her, the SI told Dhaka Tribune.
When they called her and she did not respond, they broke into the house and found two bodies hanging from the ceiling.
Police suspect Rajat, who was married and lived in Joydebpur with his family, was romantically involved with Lima. The circumstances around their deaths remain unexplained.
In Kaliganj, police were called in after Kayum Morol, 28, was found hanging from the ceiling on Saturday, confirmed Kaliganj Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Ramzan Ali.
Police said Kayum had been mentally unstable since the recent death of his child.
He had locked himself in his room in the evening and his family broke in when he did not respond at night. They informed the police when they saw the body.
Meanwhile, Shawon’s family found him hanging from the ceiling when they broke into his room on Saturday evening.
He had locked himself inside and did not respond when his family called multiple times.
They brought him down and took him to Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead.
