A sixth grader of Rajshahi Collegiate School has tested positive for Covid-19, two weeks after classes resumed following an 18-month-long closure due to the pandemic.
School and family sources said the child was not suffering from any complications and was receiving treatment at home.
The school’s Headteacher Dr Nurjahan Begum on Sunday confirmed the matter and stressed that the boy did not contract the virus from attending classes.

“Three other members of the student’s family, including his grandmother, were already infected. He contracted the virus from them at home,” she said.
Dr Begum said the boy tested positive for Covid-19 on September 18. Prior to that, he attended classes after school reopened on September 12.
The student has been advised to stay in the home quarantine for 14 days, she said.

She added that no other student of the school has shown any symptoms of Covid-19 and they continue holding classes regularly in line with the health safety rules.
The government, imposing a set of Covid-19 safety rules, reopened schools and colleges across the country on September 12 as the country is currently seeing a downtrend in cases and deaths from the deadly disease.
However, soon after, there were reports of teachers and students in different districts contracting the virus -- sparking concerns among the people.

A student in Manikganj died from Covid-19 on September 15. Another student in Lakshmipur died on Friday while undergoing treatment for Covid-19-like symptoms.
