17 die at Covid units of 4 Khulna hospitals in a day

The Covid units of four hospitals in Khulna have counted 17 deaths in the 24 hours to Monday morning.

Ten patients died at the Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), said resident medical officer Suhas Ranjan Halder.

Of them, five tested positive for Covid-19 while the other had symptoms, he said. 

A total of 187 people were undergoing treatment at the hospital's Covid unit till 8am on Monday. Of them, 117 are undergoing treatment in red zone, 30 in yellow zone, 20 are in high-dependency unit (HDU) and 20 are at intensive care unit (ICU).

Thirty six were admitted during the same time and 45 were discharged from the hospital. 

The Gazi Medical College Hospital recorded four deaths at its Covid unit. 

As many as 119 patients were receiving treatment at the Covid unit. Of them, nine were in ICU and eight in HDU, said its proprietor Gazi Mizanur Rahman.

At the Khulna General Hospital’s coronavirus unit, two patients died, said its spokesperson Dr Kazi Abu Rashed. 

Sixty-three patients were taking treatment at the unit as of Monday morning, he said.

Meanwhile, the newly opened Covid unit at Khulna's Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital, where 41 patients have been admitted, reported one death in the last 24 hours.
