Job seekers demand 32-age limit as stimulus of Covid-19

A group of job seekers demanded age limit 32 while recruiting in government jobs as a stimulus of Covid-19 for them.

They came up with this demand from a press conference held at the Sagor-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday.

While reading out a written statement, Taslima Lima, a job seeker, said: “Government has already announced many stimulus packages to stabilize the socio-economic condition of the country. But it is a matter of sorrow that unemployed youths are being deprived of this.”

She also said due to the closure of educational institutions, most of the recruitment tests have also been postponed since early 2020.

“On the other hand, many students have faced prolonged session jam due to Covid-19, even many students of seven affiliated colleges under Dhaka University (DU) have to shift their admission from those colleges to private universities because of this,” she added.

She mentioned the age limit for general students is 30 but for assistant judges and BCS health services is 32. Besides, students having various quotas are getting more facilities in joining jobs sectors as they have more opportunity to enter at the age of 32, also departmental candidates have scope till 35 years. But the general students are being deprived.

She urged the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the eve of 50th anniversary of independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to increase the age limit from 30 to 32 for government jobs considering loss of two years of students due to Covid-19.

Among others, many jobs seekers from various universities and colleges were present in the press conference under the banner “We want age limit 32 (central team)”.
