3 killed in bailey bridge collapse in Rangamati

Three people were killed when a bailey bridge collapsed in Rangamati. 

A truck laden with stones fell into a canal in the Kutukchari Bazar area of Rangamati sadar upazila on the Rangamati-Khagrachhari road. 

It was reported that three people were killed on the spot and fire service rescue team recovered their bodies from the spot.

Meanwhile, Padma Kumar Chakma, chairman of sadar upazila's Kutukchari Union, said: “A truck loaded with stones climbed the bridge at around 6:30am on Tuesday and suddenly fell into the river when the bridge collapsed. I heard that three people in the incident.”

Due to the collapse of the bridge, road communication with Rangamati-Khagrachhari and Naniarchar upazilas has been cut off.

Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Rangamati kotwali police station Md Kabir Hossain confirmed the incident and said that the incident took place at 6:30am. The truck was carrying stones from Chittagong to Naniarchar in Rangamati. 

“Three bodies have been recovered from the spot. Their names could not be known yet,” he said.
