An eye specialist died of Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
The deceased Shahidul Anwar, 68, was a consultant of Boni Hasan Eye Hospital of the city.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, CMCH Deputy Director Dr Aftabul Islam said the physician breathed his last around 11:45pm on Wednesday.
“The eye specialist had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for a month. A couple of days ago, his oxygen saturation level fell and he was shifted to the ICU of the hospital. He could not recover from his lung infection,” said Dr Islam.
He was a freedom fighter, informed his family members to Dhaka Tribune.
Shahidul was buried with State Honour in his natal village at Fatikchhari upazila at 10am Thursday.
On Wednesday, an orthopaedic surgeon of the CMCH died of Covid-19 at a privately-run hospital in the city.
